TOP STORY

Photography created by youth living in South Los Angeles In this project, young people were documenting health issues in their community including the prevalence of mini– and fast food marts (and lack of healthy foods), uncollected trash on the street, and unsafe streets, parks, and schools. They also sought to show the strengths of their community: portraits of families, Quinciñeras, youth groups, and people active in their community. Check out their work! Comment on their pics! Let them know what you think! See More Work from this project | Curated by Venice Arts | Click to view story

SPOTLIGHT GALLERIES

Evelyn's Story

My name is Evelyn Alvarez. I have been doing photography for about 5 years now; its become my true passion. I love every part of it--from the processing to the development of the photographs. My main focus is children and their environment. I love showing people the expression of children in different environments. I also love shooting portraits as well as capturing the moments least expected.

Close to The Edge of Nothing: Alex in Alaska

17 year–old Alex left for Alaska in August after 5 years at Venice Arts. In that time, she became an accomplished young photographer and filmmaker; took countless classes which is why, as she says, "some people think I was born at Venice Arts"; was in Advanced Studies and was one of our first Youth Art Interns (breaking the record as an Intern for nearly three years). This gallery features a selection of her past work and blogs. It's also the place where you can see her regular photo and blog posts from Alaska, and follow her story throughout the year. We look forward to sharing her adventure in the Far North!
