  • I have two words for you bms: two weeks!
That is the length of time left before I am a high school graduate :) And I won't write the length of time before I'm back in L.A.
I think I'll make that a surprise...I am looking forward to seeing everyone :) And of course hearing everyone's opinion on whether or not I should return to AK. It has really grown on me...
As I get close to graduating I just have to send everyone at V.A. a huge hug. And thanks! I couldn't have done it without you guys. Or maybe I could but it definitely would have been harder. Anyway see you guys soon!!!

  • I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before but it's a strange feeling when you can almost feel yourself getting older. Not physically but mentally. It's a bizarre combination of resurfacing memories and new experiences that flood your brain and make you realize that time is passing all too quickly.
You stand dead center in a fixed spot, because it becomes uncomfortable to look back and you refuse to look forward. So you focus on this very moment until you realize you have been duped my friend, for that moment is no longer a moment, it has become your past and in the confusion you are now inhabiting the future.
But that is the necessity of growing up, or more accurately, growing in. Because you either gain a greater understanding of yourself (or you think you do) or you come to terms with those mystical things in life that you will never fully grasp.
P.S. Yes I know, a bit introspective. Alaska Update: The snow is still here...don't think I've seen the ground since October but all is well. If not for the extreme weather I would really feel tempted to stay in Alaska...I think I'm particularly well suited to be here.

  • How I fell,
    Falling, Falling so fast
Who knew growing wings would break my back?
    Joy shatters my heart
    Unfamiliar feelings tear it apart
I stare at the horror left underground
Knowing to clip my wings would throw me down
But it hurts to carry my own world on my back.
How could you possibly understand that?

  • It may appear that I have dropped of the face of the planet (& really if you think about it, I have) but alas, I was just busy finishing my penultimate semester of high school. I am now on winter break which back home would mean beach time and random wanderings around Venice but here it means "your free! ...but wait...there isn't actually anything to do..."
Although I really am excited about my first white Christmas!
Also on a rather vague note, I'm learning so many lessons that I never thought I'd learn...I used to think everyone was wrong about certain things, that I would always know better than to do that but I guess everyone makes the same mistakes in certain areas.

  • Yes, I SAW THEM!! It was amazing! I was on my way to school in the morning, not expecting anything other than the biting cold and slippery ice when I look up and see light beams all over the sky...it was different than they seem in pictures. It was almost like a vertical rainbow if that makes sense. And to top it off, it was snowing so lightly that it just looked like it was raining glitter. All in all the whole scene really made me feel like I was in winter wonderland. I also saw a moose the other day. It was far away though but I still jumped up in my seat and got all excited while all the other Alaskans looked at me like I was insane.

Time is moving so fast now...In a good way though. I really think Alaska was the best idea for me...it's hard to explain but I can almost see the ares where I'm changing, I can feel it. Making this decision and taking on the responsibility if any part of it went wrong was like a catalyst for me, it allowed me to realize that I did have a say in my life. I just needed to speak loudly.

My english teacher was giving us advice on sharing our writing out loud and he suggested that we simply "get over ourselves". I think this may be my new philosophy :). The old one of course being "for me giving up is way harder than trying" from the aptly named song "Stronger" by Kanye West. Also for those keeping count, my school is up to 3 fire drills in one semester. I think they fail to realize that we are in fact in Alaska where if we run outside without a coat we probably have a greater risk of dying from hypothermia than from a fire. Although seeing the northern lights has briefly made up for this lapse of judgment on the state's part.

In my AP Gov class we took a test to discover our political beliefs (I had a left/liberal leaning) and my results prompted my teacher to ask where I was from (CALIFORNIA!!) and she responded (jokingly I hope) "Oh your one of them..." that is generally how the Alaskans react to California. That or the usual "Don't mess with her she's from L.A" which apparently implies that I am both violent, and knowledgeable on the topic of drugs...

    That's Alaska for you...

  • We had an particularly warm day today; it was only 20 degrees...
Alaska is a funny place...I think its so weird how so many people are from other parts of the country and yet we all ended up in Alaska where when it gets to -40 you need to be bundled up but not so much that you sweat because it'll freeze to your skin and you'll get frostbite (or so the true Alaskans tell me). Anyway it's pretty weird when you think about it...Alaska is like this temporary place for most of us, we're just here because we can't be there. On the art front I have to say I'm a little frustrated...Before I came up here I had visions of my many photo trips around the wilderness, but as I came here the reality of not just how cold it actually is, but the fact that I doubt it's smart to bring out a camera when it's like -5, set in. Anyway I'll figure it out one of these days...
I guess I don't really have much else to write about...I do miss L.A. but in a bittersweet way I guess. I still remember all the reasons why I felt like I had to get away but sometimes I'll wake up and think I'll look out my window and see the sun and instead it's a mini-blizzard. The worst is after school because as I walk out I expect to have options like movies, venice arts, the beach and yet there is none of that up here. At the same time I think that I'm getting used to the slow pace of life up here and I'll be so freaked when I return to L.A. by all the activity that I might miss Alaska some. I can't really decide how I feel about it right now...The only way I can describe it is like medicine. You know it makes you feel better and it's good for you but you kinda wish you weren't sick in the first place so you didn't have to take it.

  • I confess I haven't done a serious photo shoot since before I left L.A.
Today oddly enough after working all day I was moved by inspiration (?) to go forage in my basement. The images are pretty different from my usual...I tend to like people, movement and dynamic elements but I guess I felt like doing something a bit different today. My eyes (real and mental) felt a strong urge to explore the areas that we usually ignore (especially me). My new basement felt like the perfect representation of this. So I give you my explorations of the unseen...not the most interesting pictures I'll admit, and I'm sure you're expecting something more Alaskan but this one was more for me than anyone else. BTW Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard is a good book to read should you feel particularly introspective and contemplative like I do right now. She really explores the art of seeing. These days we treat our vision as something passive. Like the very act of seeing doesn't engage us with this world...it's a constant exploration. New tones of colors, subtle motions, undetectable changes. So long story short, these new pictures are about what I saw today at 10 PM :)

  • Hours before my flight was set to leave Los Angeles I sat in my bed trying to think deep thoughts. I desperately wanted to make some sort of peace with the moment, to have a grand epiphany before I arrived at my new life. It seems that excitement and sadness often seem to arrive together, each trying to outshine the other. As I flew over snow covered mountains hours later I began to push the sadness aside and tried to dive into the anticipation, as I often do. This lasted a few weeks into my stay here in Alaska until one day homesickness hit me hard. I glanced around and the absence of people, lights and oddly enough, tall buildings, affected me more than the presence of so much foliage and the light smattering of snow. It made me think of how what isn't there can often have more of an impact that what actually is. It's the old problem of noticing what you lack but not realizing what is right in front of you. Later though as I settled into Alaskan life I realized that I never get the urge to run up here. In Los Angeles, because of all those people and all those buildings, sometimes I would look out and feel the strongest urge to run far away from everyone and everything. To just talk to the world that housed me, uninterrupted by others. Up here you're so close to the edge of nothing that you actually believe that if you start to run, you may never find your way back. It's strange but this knowledge is comforting in a way. It's sort of like discovering the boundaries of this world and deeply respecting them.

  • Hello fellow BMS-ers!
All is well in Alaska :) predictably it is cold but not unbearable (yet). I have just finished quite nearly finishing my college essay :). I'm lucky that my AP English teacher (who likes to call us the family of APES) made our college essay an assignment so that we would get it out of the way early on.
I heard some very exciting news from Lynn that the deli (not to be confused with it's pre-opening name "THE DELI") has opened!! I feel that some pictures are needed on BMS to commemorate this long awaited event...also some blogs on the menu, employees, etc. Also I have managed to find someone who actually lived in Venice a few years ago. We had a lively discussion about our hometown :). But back to colleges! I have all my tests taken and now only the details remain which I'm very excited about. Should I (hopefully/fingers crossed!) get in anywhere, expect a crazed entry full of exclamation points and typos rather than my usual intellectually stimulating, thought provoking entries (In case you missed it, yes, that was sarcasm with a hint of wit.)
Hello to everyone! And especially Liz who reminded me that I was slacking on my blogging duties :).

  • First off, let me say that I miss L.A.!!!
Something that I definitely took for granted there was the diversity and creativity (especially in Venice). I have yet to spot a gallery or hear anyone talk passionately about art. I am making up for this by running a fake gallery for my Accounting class since we had to make up fake businesses to learn how to manage expenses. I have to thank everyone at V.A. and the G2 Gallery because thanks to you guys my teacher thinks I'm some business genius because I know what my expenses are and my target demographic :). FYI the gallery is called Mixed Up Media Gallery :).
The title of this blog is Scary Moons because since I've been coming home from work late I've gotten to actually see the stars *gasp* and the moon. These moons are the kind that they show in movies when the clouds go over it and some unsuspecting person turns into a werewolf. I'm by far the most bundled up person here but yet I have adjusted somewhat. At 40 degrees we are all happy because its "hot" outside. It has snowed for one day so far but it went away right after. School is going good except for one noticeable lapse of judgment on the administration's part. They seem to feel that it is a good idea to conduct a fire drill that requires us to stand outside in 20 degree weather. I am told by my peers that -40 degree weather is also acceptable weather for us to do the drill.
That's all I have to report for now...I'll be perusing BMS to combat my art withdrawal :)

  • It's raining.
Which I wouldn't find too bad if I had not just looked and seen that it's sunny in L.A.
In case you didn't pick up on the tone, home sickness has officially set in. I miss the beach!!! And also I begin to suspect that my peers at school are getting a bit tired of my "Back home...." and "Well in L.A....." although I was surprised to find that very few people are actually from Alaska. A lot of people here have a "back home". I have to say the school is very nice. Compared to Venice High. At Venice you counted yourself lucky if your food was even warm when they served it to you. The other day they ran out of individual cheese slices for the burgers and everyone was outraged. tsk tsk.

  • So I think it's safe to say that I've settled into Alaska by now. I'm enrolled at the local (tiny) high school, I've caught my first horrible alaskan flu, and I've witnessed the sun being out till 8PM.
The most noticable difference so far has been school and the rules. There's a "what to do if the bus tips over" drill. Very educational.
I haven't posted any pictures (with the exception of my dearest friend smokey the bear) yet because for starters things don't look so different yet since snow is MIA and for seconders I haven't really had a chance to explore the wilderness yet. But when I get a chance there will be pictures galore!

  • So I do have time to write my OFFICIAL last blog. Today is my last day of work, but I'll be back tomorrow to finish up the AKA movie that we have been working on for awhile now. If we do manage to finish that then I'll be back yet again on Monday to see it. I've had a pretty good last day, I already had ice cream and I'm only halfway through.
    OH!
Also as you may have noticed I'm obsessed with the going-ons next door a.k.a THE DELI and I'm happy to report that they are very nearly, almost done. That is what is seems like...I may be wrong though.
NOTE TO JOCELYN: I forgot to mention that as part of your intern duties you have to keep V.A. updated on THE DELI's progress via blogging. Feel free to include helpful pictures and/or diagrams. And don't forget to capitalize THE DELI.
Ok I did my mushy post last week so this is going to have to suffice. Adieu, farewell, and bye.
It was awesome working with you (all of you)

  • So. This is the week before my last. In other words next week is my last week of working at Venice Arts. I figure I probably won't have time to write my last blog as a Youth Art Intern (but fear not, I'll still post the occasional blog about my life as an eskimo). Today I was "training" my replacement which reminds me of when I first became a Youth Art Intern. It was the beginning of Ninth Grade. I'm now about to go start my last year of high school. I couldn't do a handstand. Now I can (albeit with the help of a wall or other supportive wall like substance, like a tree). I feel very lucky because the best thing about Venice Arts is that for about 99% of the time it doesn't even feel like work...I managed to go through a bunch of crazy events in my personal life and yet still work here because everyone has always been super supportive and helpful and I never felt like it was too much. The beauty of Venice Arts is that one minute we can be super intense figuring out how to have an exhibit up in time and the next we are building fake beards out of yarn. When I took my first class here I never imagined that I would stay for almost five years...
For years I used to take the end of session survey and one of the questions always was "Do you consider yourself an artist?" and my answer for a long time was "I guess....maybe...I don't know"
but now I know that if by some reason I have to take ANOTHER survey I can answer that question with certainty because Venice Arts has definitely succeeded in helping me become an artist. :)

  • Today was my second week mentoring for Digital 'Zine and Local Stories. All in all the day was rather interesting. I made a paper zine with the first class...got the creative juices flowing and later after filming the interviews with my pack of kids (and by pack I mean two.) I played tetherball for the first time since I was in first grade. So that was interesting and fun. This week I start working a grand total of twelve hours so I will be back tomorrow for another fun-filled six hours. As it happens I have become very aware of the fact that when I move to Alaska (an event that is approaching very quickly) I will sorely miss having these artistic resources like being able to check out camera's and use the software whenever I need it. Which has made me think about how much V.A really has to offer when you've been in the program for a while. You can really create just about anything. I sincerely hope that my future school will at least have a darkroom so that I can print my pictures of moose(s) crossing the road which I hear is a very common happening up there on the base. So now I'm getting all nostalgic about V.A. now that time is flying by.
Will my BMS account disappear without a trace on August 20th? (the day I leave).
On another completely unrelated note I am super sleepy and wore out from my intense game of tetherball which I sadly lost. But only because I was distracted by thinking about the time to make sure my group got back in time.
And for my final note: I have made it my goal to finish editing the AKA movie before I leave so that I can personally post it up here. Even though I am in it and therefore I will automatically not like it.

  • So today was my first day mentoring again after the so-called class at VAP. I had the double-whammy of two classes back to back with only a small break to stuff my face with a salad slice from Abbot's Pizza and their delicious cookies. Also I heard very nice things about a certain awesome mentor (hint: his name starts with Eug- and ends with -ene)
from students who said "he is really deep" and another who said "he always makes you feel important" which I thought was super nice because that is exactly the kind of mentors that (in my humble opinion) make Venice Arts the great place it is. I have personally been through a lot of classes both photo & video so I like to think I know what I'm talking about when I say that your mentors make a HUGE difference in not just the class but your continued interest in the particular subject. For me personally it was the mentors that convinced me to continue with filmmaking classes and I'm glad because I really enjoy it now. And as an intern I've had a few kids from classes that I've helped mentor tell me that they want to intern and do what I do which is something that I also think says a lot about Venice Arts because it's definitely not like a huge internship at some big famous company or anything, and yet people still like the environment enough that they want to work here. I know I don't often talk about Venice Arts but since an outsider might read this at some point I think it's good to put a "student/intern" perspective out there since I've been on both sides. And their both really good sides to be on. Ok my shameless Venice Art's promoting is over now back to my most pressing issue. The Deli. In case anyone is keeping up with my blog posts you may recall that I had spotted a plumbing truck parked outside last week. Well it is STILL there. I'm no plumber but I kinda feel like they should have finished in a week... after all they have been working on it for like more than a YEAR. It just came to me that it would be a good idea for Venice Arts to make a documentary about the deli....
I'm also including a picture from what I was up to this weekend =)

  • Wow. I just discovered that this little box you type in is adjustable!

As the happy face in the title suggests I am very, very, happy on this beautiful sunny day. Why, you ask? Well my nephew is here!!!! And my sister too. For those unfamiliar with the whole sordid tale, my sister+nephew live in Alaska, where I will be joining them this August. Anyway I have not seen my nephew since he was about 3 months and now (exactly today as a matter of fact) he is a year old. They arrived on Tuesday night and I ran through the terminal to meet them. It was very dramatic.

But I digress. On the work front so far I've been productive, with a Staples run already under my metaphorical belt. I have to say that Staples runs have been decidedly more pleasant since the Venice Art's Staples card started working again. I no longer have to face the giant contraption of shame that was previously used to process the card because it would not slide through as nature intended it to do.

I've also become interested in making a Big Book of Art (hereby called the BBA, if there is a hereby) with my writing and photographs. But I don't want to jinx it before I even start as I am wont to do. I always get these fantastical ideas about projects and as you may have noticed I have nothing to show for it. Ok very disturbing shaking just occurred, quite possibly an earthquake but may have been wind seeing as no one else seemed to notice. Oh geez it was not an earthquake it was someone stomping around upstairs.

DELI UPDATE: Today as I waited for someone to open up the gallery I saw a plumber's truck parked in their parking space which can only mean that they have made some strides with their construction plan which would appear to go something like this: work for about a week, make lots of noise then abandon said work for about three months and then mysteriously show up with random trucks so as to baffled and perplex Venice Arts people.

Oh back to my adorable nephew he seems to have a penchant for photographs! I was showing my sister some polaroids from a trip and he eagerly snatched them from me and stared at them with interest. Before trying to eat them. Anyway this is a promising sign, he may move back to Venice when he is older and become part of the next generation of Venice Art-ists. Ok this has been a rather lengthy blog with only a smidgen actually having to do with work stuff.

It's all in there but now I fear that any moment the entire closet will collapse. It just doesn't seem very sturdy. I would like to mention something very important that I did learn here at VA. When troubleshooting with (video) cameras there is a number of things that could be the problem. It could be:

    a) the tape
    b) the camera
    c) the computer
    d) the firewire cable
    or e) the software

or any number of combinations of those. That's my helpful advice for the week. Also seeing as I'll be leaving VA soon I think it's time to confess something (which a lot of people know already): I don't know how to process film :(

For some reason I never learned ... there was always some issue so now I always feel bad when Russell or someone introduces me to other students and says, "This Alex she's taken photography for forever, ask her anything ... etc" and I don't know how to process film. Anyway just wanted to get that out there. Also now as a result I have a bunch of rolls of unprocessed film because there aren't any Samy's in South Central (can't imagine why). But as soon as I do process them expect a brand new exhibit from me. On Beyond Myspace.

  • Here I am again...first off I actually have something very exciting to report!

*AHEM* EXCITING REPORT: I have finished the 11th grade.

I actually finished 2 days early which is good because otherwise I would be at home right now trying to finish work. But luckily I overcame my procrastinating tendencies this weekend and got a lot done. I'm now at work with the day full of possibilities.

And curves music in the background. The downside of it being early and full of possibilities is that I haven't actually done anything (besides blog) yet so I don't have anything to report on the work front. But I would like to mention how the California budget crisis is ruining my plans. I was planning to take Physics at a community college but the class got cut. So now my alternative was taking philosophy instead but the college that I would take that class at has cancelled their second summer session so everyone is trying to get into summer session 1, which in turn has caused me to be wait listed. Which is very unfortunate. - Later in the day-

I have now done stuff so I can blog about what I did. I organized a cabinet and took down the current show which is kinda sad, taking art down :( .Nevertheless, new art is coming in so that's nice.

Deli Update: More promising thumps and noises that indicate that actual work is being done. On the other foot it could also mean that the mafia has moved in and will soon charge us for our safety. At which point one of us will have to go undercover to bring them down "from the inside". Which could be violent. And involve kissing a ring.

  • Before I forget, on the faves page I noticed that it says "your fave work estoy aqui" and it should be "your fave work ESTA aqui" otherwise it says "your fave work I am here"...yeah.

I am currently at the Control Center for VA, also sometimes known as The Gallery. A massive furry stuffed dog is currently working away at his(her?) desk (hence the bizarre picture). It's filling the Jojo shaped hole in the gallery, (although it is rather portly and it seems to be taking more space than jojo did.)Anyway the tragicness of the story is that it too will leave us soon...I'm starting to feel like I may be straying from this blog's intended purpose of informing people what it is like to be an intern so I will go back to the topic at hand. On the other foot though, this is what it is like to be an intern at VA. On a semi-related note, my internship at the G2 Gallery has come to a close. This tuesday was my last day :(.

I have to say I owe my new found knowledge of dishwashing machines to them. Also here at VA I have just finished creating a checklist for various cleaning tasks that the interns will take turns doing. I think I may have a go at les toilettes to get it over with...well on that bright note I think I will log off now...

  • Same as fleeting is a space, removed from time.
    The tick tock fades,
barely murmurs beneath that feeling that all is well.

The inner soul delves further into itself, discovering things that were never, and yet always known.

Breath of something other than air, lost in a haze of broken wishes.

Old smells tickling my memory of lives yet unlived.

Somehow it's my past and future.

Eyes wide open, imbibing the imagery,

grasping hopelessly for an essence so elusive.

    Rich colors drip,
trickle down, despite all reason there they are.

    Inspiration. That other world.

  • There is comfort in the fleeting,
a singular feeling of peace, because the temporary will never last.
    It emboldens us,
it releases the hinges that bind us.
Those fragments of time do not count.
They are not written, we hold them in our hearts until we too forget.
The fleeting has comforted and now it is gone...

  • My poetic gold for today is : Ok first good news! My favorite (and by favorite I mean only) brother in law is back from Iraq! Also I have been writing. About myself lately which for me is a very big deal because due to the nature of my life I try to forget the unfortunate incidents that have transpired which is basically my whole life...just kidding. barely. Anyway I have wrote some little tidbits that I won't be posting her but still they exist. I'm supposed to be "mentoring" right now at VAP but seeing as how none of the kids feel particularly inclined to show up (i.e no one is here) I decided it would be ok if I blogged instead. As I type our wall is being repeatedly pelted by a ball from some kids outside who think that it is a good idea to play handball against a glass wall. Ah...hope springs eternal. We all just jumped up right now when a rogue child ran into the room only to run back out because we weren't the class/people he was looking for. I know that it's been an hour but still maybe one of them will show up...I find it very ironic (and by ironic I mean annoying) that one of the VAP people poked their head into the room and asked (quite astonished) if the kids were here yet. Which they are not, which they should know since they are not even on the premises probably on a strategically planned field trip- oh wait, one showed up!!!gasp.shock.

  • So on the intern front this week I learned how to open a gallery and make a sale at the G2 internship. This will surely come in handy when I move to alaska later this year since the only after-school type job around there is the PX which is the military's version of wal-mart. Also I'm happy to report that I hung a wall for the student exhibit! I'm usually pretty bad at cutting/hanging/measuring etc. basically anything but taking the actual picture. But thanks to Deanna I have now overcome that particular obstacle. Although it came at a price, that of hitting my finger with a hammer, getting a gnarly cut from 62 inches of measuring tape sliding through my hand, and hitting my knuckles with the metal end of the measuring tape. But all's well that ends well. The tragic-ness of it all is that I didn't get to even come to the exhibit due to STAR testing with my fellow online school goers. I also started teaching a class with Cathy the film lead at Virginia Ave Park. After our class (which consisted mostly of kids forced to be there...) we got locked out of the Venice Arts van due to some problem with the alarm. So basically we spent about 20 minutes trying to get in while tripping the alarm repeatedly until getting picked up and abandoning the poor van. I'm very attached to the van actually. It reminds me of the good ole days of my first session here when we were doing a project on the Venice Pier and we went there EVERY Saturday. I remember there was an old bottle of nesquik milk in there for a long time and finally towards the end of the session someone decided it would be a great idea to open it and smell it. The smell was not pleasant.

  • To start off, I wrote a Haiku last blog and I realized that the blog doesn't show the spaces like i made them so the aforementioned haiku isn't separated into clear 5-7-5 lines. Ok so now to this week. First on Tuesday I had my G2 Gallery internship which I missed last week because I had to go on a wild goose chase to Eagle Rock High School to register for the Advanced Placement test. Anyway this week my task was to write on a chalkboard the name of the upcoming show. Surprisingly I found out that on a chalkboard I can actually write really good with my right hand! (its surprising because I'm a lefty.) After that I proceeded to put info in a list, which is providing me with valuable secretarial skills for the future. Today as I type, I am at my second internship at the Gallery. My tooth hurts. Why? Well I went to the dentist,I have a big problem with dentists because unlike doctors who you go to when your in pain and they make it go away, when I go to the dentist nothing hurts and when I leave then my tooth/gums/mouth really hurt. I also made the mistake of wearing a USC sweater to my UCLA dentist place. The first thing they asked was "You go to USC??". I do not actually :( Anyway moving on. Ok today Deanna (the photo lead) poached me from Cathy (the film lead) to assemble frames. It would have been very easy had the plexiglass pieces been the right size, but they were not. I had to make a piece of glass fit into a slightly large frame which required a very complicated system of tape rolls. My major accomplishment today was cutting a piece of cardboard to put over the back of a frame, I'm usually very bad at cutting so I was extremely surprised that it actually worked and no one (i mean me) got hurt. Also I would like to add that my tooth still hurts. :(

    When I die, burn me
Scatter my ashes wherever you may decide
    My soul will be elsewhere.

  • Due to my high level of interest in photography I immediately assumed that I would become a photographer after high school & college. Despite my mother's constant "advice" of studying a real profession that will have more security. Or her other bizarre wish that I become a director...which I enjoy doing but it isn't exactly my aspiration. But I guess she wanted me to be the double whammy of hispanic/female director. Over the years I kept insisting that I would study photography and she better get with the program because I wasn't gonna change my mind etc. And now as college looms ever nearer I have *gasp* developed certain doubts about my plan. I sometimes feel like it would be a shame to go through all this trouble to get into a good college so that I can study what I already know(mostly). And also the usual doubts about my work and whether or not it's good enough. I also tend to only shoot when strong inspiration hits me (which hasn't been very often lately). So I guess at this point I have no idea what to do with my life. But I guess I have the old back-up list of professions that I wanted when I was younger.
    1) Veterinarian
    2) Random person who lives in jungle with wild animals that for some reason don't eat me.
3)Editor of a magazine (this was when I used to watch Just Shoot Me)
    4) Lawyer
5)a 00 Agent, possible 008(as in MI-6, british secret service)

  • So even though sometimes it seems like I was born here (at V.A), I was not. Once upon a time, 4-ish years ago I stumbled upon a flyer from V.A. and me and my sister were intrigued and so we signed up...not an extremely exciting story, I know. I signed up for the maximum of 3 classes (photo, digital storytelling, and painting to pixels) I stuck with photo and video classes, i only made it one week in the painting class though =( . I think like two years into these classes my sister was asked to intern for the photo program and a little while later I was asked to intern for the film program. This is I think my third time around interning...so it's not so radically different from the last time I guess. I usually digitize footage or do other computer related stuff. Occasionally I clean and do Staples runs. Ah! I can hear the drills from next door from the mysterious alleged deli-to-be. And some guy yelling about something. Really they should be done by now, they have been "building" since LAST year and they have apparently made no significant progress. Other than blowing up our toilet and creating a giant black hole in the parking lot. If they got it together I could just walk right next door for my lunch instead of walking down to 7-eleven or to the Pollo Loco/Subway/Pizza Hut plaza thing. Which requires one to try to cross the corner where Staples is which is kinda like playing russian roulette because you have to fling yourself out into the street and hope for the best...

  • So I've been informed that I am to blog about my experiences as a V.A intern and also @ the G2 Gallery. Well for starters, I'll tell you (whoever "you" may be) about the G2 gallery internship. I'm very proud to report that I have outdone myself labeling-wise by doing 1,300 postcards in one day/shift. Also I had a very tragic incident where I did the total cliche thing of filling the dishwasher with the wrong soap and making the kitchen a bubble machine. Good times. On the V.A front...I've done what I've always done...nothing much to report there. I hope this fills my blogging quota...

Until a Top Secret Agent whose name cannot be revealed EVER. Double crossed us and compromised Handstands identity. The last items left are the only clues that can help us find out what happened. The digital camera has been locked with special technology and the 3.0.0 could not open it to see the images but they knew he had images that could incriminate their society. The 2 keys were left to open his chest of secrets, that has yet to be opened we have dispatched an agent to find and reveal it's contents. The credit cards were left so we could see his list of expenses that were purposely bought so that our Steganographer could decode the names of the items and find out the code he left. She is writing about me. 6.She prefers filming and taking pics, to editing. ( I don't blame her). 7.She has to part her hair just right or her bangs will fall wrong. 8.She takes beyond myspace. 9. THe week before that we were instructed to dress nicely, which i think is sad, that we had to be told this, anyway we came early (like we always do) and (wait I should get a student of the month prize for that) I got into eugenes car and then I remember I was really hungry and I kept eating my valentine chocolates because I idn't eat breakfast and then I remember I was surprised to see that no one was wearing a seatbelt (hint, hint eugene) and then we thought that the community center was russels studio. Finally we found the studio ironically it was called bling studios and up the stairs we went...I really liked his studio I remember that...the I thought his tast in music was questionable. And then I was dragged to the main area to learn the wonders of the light meter and to help demonstrate how it worked to the other kids which I thought was pretty pointless considering that they had no freaking idea what the numbers meant. Um...then I went to sit down on the couch and told two certain lovebirds my recent observations and then the tables turned and I was observed and then I was really thirsty and my sister found a diet coke, which I guess was to be expected considering it's a fashion studio...anyways we finally finished and then we got here just in time to watch russell hit shanes mom's car. the end.
